New York Times bestseller Kyle Maynard spoke to Utah Valley University on Thursday, that if you have a positive attitude you can do anything.
Kyle Maynard has dealt with the odds stacked against him from the day he was born.
Maynard was born with a condition known as congenital amputation, which means he was born with out arms or legs.
“What ever we choose to make up in our heads, that’s our reality,” said Maynard, speaking to a group of around 500 students at the Utah valley University campus.
Maynard has appeared on Oprah, 20-20, Good Morning America and Larry King Live, sharing his motto in life and his book called “No Excuses.”
“I’ve always believed that anyone can achieve their dreams, regardless. I’ve always had this attitude about no excuses. A belief that I can go on and do what I need to do. To go on, to succeed, regardless,” said Maynard.
Maynard went on and talked about how he wanted to fight MMA, and people doubted him and even wrote hateful things about him all over.
He ran across much opposition and the Georgia Athletic Commission even died him to fight in the state of Georgia.
Maynard got his chance to fight in MMA in front of several thousand people in Auburn, Ala.
“We all have challenges or adversity’s, we can choose to have these rule our life or we can take control,” said Maynard.
Because of this mindset that he has conquered many things in his life. Maynard can type 50-60 words per minute on his computer; he has a touch screen Android phone and has his own car that he drives.
Maynard went on to tell the crowd of students that he has always been upbeat.
Ever since he was little he would mess with people when asked what happened to him, he would tell them that he was attacked by sharks, in the Vietnam War or attacked by tigers.
He went on to say that not everything is going to be easy. His first year of wrestling he lost 35 matches in a row.
At that turning point in his life he was about ready to give up but he “prayed to take the fear out of his heart” and he never looked back.
Maynard is planning a trip in Sep. to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro.
“I want to do things in my life that is worthy of criticism,” said Maynard.
